Laker girls !

At basketball game, when they have a break or half-time, fans are able to enjoy performances.

For example, at a Lakers basketball game, there are the Laker girls dancers.

These dancers are meant to get the fans excited and happy. At the beginning of the game, the team announcer will use his special voice to call the team members when they enter the court. Not only does the announcer use enthusiasm, but also there is a laser show. This is really exciting for the fans who brought tickets to see the game.

I think that performance and sports are connected to basketball. Not only the fans, but also the players can enjoy the performance and atmosphere at a basketball game.

At a basketball game, people are able to enjoy the spectacle of flashy dancers, the music and the laser shows. Besides, fans can eat hot dogs and nachos while listening to the announcer and watching the game.

So, that's the reason why I recommend Lakers Blog to all of you.
You can find it at http://lakersblog.latimes.com/

2010 NBA Finals---I LOVE THIS GAME!

I recommend the 2009-2010 NBA playoffs Los Angeles Lakers VS Boston Celtics.

Both teams are very strong in the NBA. Los Angeles Laker is from the west and the Boston Celtics are from the east. The most exciting game was game 7. I think the game was wonderful, and the Los Angeles Lakers won back-to-back NBA championships as they defeated the Boston Celtics 83-79 in Game 7 at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The two teams, both fighting fiercely to finally stand on the final stage, have presented us the most exciting game during the 7 game series. The 7th game in this series, where Lakers and Celtics each have 3 wins, decided which team would be crowned as champion, so Kobe Bryant and his Lakers teammates, as well as the Three Bigs who are Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen with their Celtics teammates worked hard from the moment the game started. In the first half, the Celtics were superb stopping the Lakers defensive rush but were anemic in their outside shooting in the first half. Kobe Bryant and the rest of the Lakers struggled in the first-half of the game but managed to overtake the Celtics in the 4th quarter. With 7:23 left in the 4th quarter, the Lakers tied the game. It went back and forth from there, with the veteran Derek Fisher coming through with a "nothing but net" three pointer to bring the Lakers back again from a 3-point deficit.

With a minute to play, the Lakers were up by six but Ray Allen responded with a three points of his own for the Celtics. But the Lakers defense stepped up and the offense crashed the boards and that was enough for the Lakers to win the NBA championship for 2010. Both team personified the NBA spirits--where amazing thins happens if you don't give up. In the first part of the game, the Lakers were 6 points behind the Celtics, but with their tough defense and fortitude, they survived and gave the Celtics a big blow. On the other hand, even if the Celtics were behind in the 4th quarter, Ray Allen and Paul Pierce still were convinced that they would turn things around. They never surrendered because they are real fighters and believed they could control their own fate , so they just kept shooting ,shooting and shooting until the last second of the game. I'm so happy that the Lakers won the championship, but the Celtics also deserve everyone's respect.

This is the charm of the NBA. People laugh when their team wins and cry for the loss. However, we never know the final score until the last minute because no one will give up. The hope always comes out of desperation if we have a strong conviction. The fantastic final game leaves us more than the scores, the championship, or the MVP: it leaves an aspiring story that encourages us to strive for the future and to keep hope in mind.

What a wonderful cartoon and movie it is!!!

Do you like having fun with your friends? I recommend watching or playing basketball with your friends in your spare time. My friends and I watched a famous Japanese cartoon call Slam Dunk.
It was very entertaining and taught a lot about basketball skills. Even if you don't know about basketball you can learn the rules from this cartoon. Another movie call Like Mike
is also very interesting and fun to watch. Because there are a lot of NBA stars in this movie. Steve Nash and Dirk Nowitzki have cameo roles in the movie.
If you play basketball, you can enjoy being with your friends while exercising. It's a good way to play with friends and make a great many new friends. Basketball allows players to practice communication and team work with others. It also allows people to become members of a team.

Some people think watching or playing soccer with friends is also fun. But I think basketball is better. Because it's an indoor game and if it rains, you don't have to worry about getting wet. So, I believe everyone watching or playing basketball can have fun with friends.
Don't you agree with me?

Extra knowledge!

Soccer is also a team sports. It is the most popular sport in the world. It played between two teams of eleven players using a spherical ball. Unlike basketball, soccer is an outdoor game.
Soccer players needn't be tall, but in basketball players should have enough height to throw the ball into the basket and the defensive player should have the ability to rebound. At the professional level, most male basketball players are more than 6 feet 3 inches (1.91m) and most women are above 5 feet 7 inches (1.70m).

Both of the two games score the most points by the end of the match wins the game. The score of a soccer game can be 1-1 or drew 0-0 at the end of the game, but in basketball if the score is tied at the end of the game, the game will into extra time, and one of the teams will be the winner at the end of the game.

By the way, according to a survey given to all NBA teams, the tallest current NBA player is Yao Ming, who is from Shanghai China, my hometown. He stands at 7 feet 6 inches (2.29m). Because of him, I like watch basketball game and the NBA. I hope I can play basketball well and become a super girl in the future.

Let's learn the basic knowledge about basketball!

Basketball is a game played between two teams of five players each. The object is to shoot a ball through an elevated basket on the opponent's side of a rectangular court. Points are scored by tossing a ball through the basket at the opponent's end.

Players may move the ball by dribbling or passing with the hands to others. There are five people in one team, and one of them is the team captain. Besides, everyone has their own positions in the teams. Such as the tallest members of a team will play "center", "small forward"or "power forward" positions. Meanwhile, shorter players or those who possess the best ball handling skill and speed play "point guard" or "shooting guard"positions in the team.

Homework12: Education

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/08/books/review/EParker-t.html?scp=1&sq=japan%20english%20education&st=cse
Do you agree with the writer Minae Mizumura (“The Fall of Japanese in the Age of English”) when she says that”, “the dominance of English, especially with the advent of the Internet, threatens to reduce all other national languages to mere “local” languages that are not taken seriously by scholars. The education system, she argues, doesn’t spend enough time teaching Japanese.”Why? Give at least 3 reasons to support your answer

I don't agree with the author.
First, the reason of the fall of Japanese is not wholly on the advent of Internet. Internet just provides a platform for the people to easily access information and communicate with others, by which it benefits more citizens to read, just as the article said. in other words, with the advent of Internet, people read more, thus may accelerate the spread of Japanese kanji and its culture.
Second, in some degree, it is ubiquitous to see the dominance of English, but learning English doesn't go conflict with learning Japanese language. Actually, to learn Japanese is to know your own country, to immersed in your own culture, and the education of foreign language should not be at the expense of learning own language and culture. I think teachers in school all know this sentence that " Don‘t put the cart before the horse."
Third, in my opinion, to learn and write and read Japanese well depends on individual interest. sometimes, it's none of the business of the surroundings and the so-called advanced technologies. if one is really interested in kanji or something related, he has great passion in regardless of the advent of Internet or the dominance of English, and he will take initiatives to learn.

Homewrok11:Men and Women

1.http://search.japantimes.co.jp/member/member.html?ek20060110ks.htm
Do you agree or disagree with the author (who is Japanese). Please explain why
I partly agree with the author. I think there are two reasons that may cause this phenomenon. One is men are not as strong as their fathers or grandfathers who will take more responsibilities on their shoulders. Nowadays, men, in some ways, are kind of soft. with more women working outside and working quite well, men are increasingly reluctant to take responsibilities, and what's more, they would not like to give promises. Thus, they are not willing to start a relationship. Second, the living environment may distort their mentality. They no longer regard their girlfriend as the one who they would like to protect and to take care of. instead, they treat it as an investment that should have some return earnings. The whole society creates this environment that every investment should yield something, that if we do not see a positive future, it is meaningless to invest. therefore, men retreat from loving relationships.

2.I have read an article from the Japan Times
http://search.japantimes.co.jp/cgi-bin/sk20100107a1.html
The all-star player Gilbert Arenas will be punished by taking his unloaded guns from the locker room. As a celebrity, he should serve as a role model that gives young people a good example. Instead, he didn't take this seriously and even had no idea how bad impact he had left among teenages. Once, I liked him very much for his accurate 3-point shooting and for his great leadership, but in his life outside the court, he's so arrogant and bad-disciplined that he can't become an idol that inspires and motivates people.

Homework10: Table Manners

1.Have you ever eaten in a restaurant in a foreign country? Where? What did you eat? Did you make any mistakes? Please explain your experience.
Once i ate in a Scotland restaurant. I ate steak, goose liver etc. Actually at first i did not know what it is and didn't know how to eat in an appropriate way. so i felt nervous and embarrassed. and frankly, i found these so-called delicious food not that tasty. or maybe it's not ourstyle.

2.Did you learn anything?
What I have learnt is that before you eat in a foreign restaurant, you should get an idea what its food is like and how to eat it. Just as the old saying goes, do as Roman does when you are in Rome. I just need to get accustomed to the different food style and enjoy the whole eating. But surely, I also learnt how to eat in a western manner which is graceful and elegant.

Since Japanese weddings are expensive, do you think having a massive wedding like Korea or UAE is a good idea?
I think having a massive wedding is a good idea. Because it is important and meaningful to our lifetime.
What do you think about eloping? Is it a good idea or romantic? Why?
I think eloping is not a good idea. Because you can't leave your family alone and eloping. It's selfish and frivolous action. It will heart both of you and your family members.
Have you ever thought about having a wedding in a foreign location like Hawaii?
Yes, I have thought about having a wedding in a foreign location like Aegean Sea.
What is your ideal wedding? What would you definitely do, wear or go to on that big day? Why is that important?
I think that will be my ideal wedding in my life to have a wedding in Aegean Sea. I can enjoy both the beautiful sea and my wedding. At that time I will wear white wedding dress and traditional red garment (QiPao ) on that big day. Because I think that will be a wonderful marriage in my lifetime, and wear a bridal veil and traditional costumes in my wedding I think I will have a happy and harmonious family in the future.

Yes, I think it is important to talk about superstitions in the class.
Every country has their own superstitions. So, it's interesting to know about the background of superstitions and we can know much general knowledge about the superstitions. People in nowadays believe that superstitions influence our cultures and communication affected by superstitions.

We have a lot of superstitions in our cultures. Some comprises the number, animal, ghost, supernatural, etc. Some superstitions I'm also believe in .

Geomantic omen is the most popular superstition until now. It means proper location of house, grave, placing furniture or something important. Many people, especially traditional businessmen believe good geomantic omen will lead to luck and fortune.

Another one is if you cry on New Year's Day, you will cry all through the year. Therefore, children are tolerated and are not spanked, even though they are mischievous.

Before you get married Wedding clothes should be red, and/or white. Wearing black, or gray will bring bad luck to the marriage.

The number.Number 8, by the homonym to 發[Fa] . Most people believe the number will bring luck to us. What more, the 2008 Beijing Olympics are set to kick off at 8:08 p.m. on Aug. 8 , which fuels the number 8 superstitions in china . Why this happen? Easy. Our unique linguistic features and our psychological gratifications exert a great influence on our mindsets.

People all know the famous proverb in my culture."An hour in the morning before breakfast is worth two all the rest of the day". That means the best time of the day is morning. If you lose an hour in the morning, and you will spend all day looking for it. So, time in the moring is very important in our dailylife.
2.Please explain what you think are the meaning of each of the 4 expressions.
a. Time is money.
Money is precious, so is time. On the other hand, if you have time, you can get a lot of things just like knowledge, skill and so on throughout your laborious learning. Once you have those abilities, you can earn money everywhere. So, as a result, " time is money".
b. A stitch in time saves nine.
If one takes action or does a piece of work immediately, it may save a lot of extra work later.
c.There's no time like the present.
Now is the best time to do something.
For example: "There is no time like the present to talk with him".
d.Fashionable late
For example, I think if you are going to attend a party, but you find your clothes are not suit for the party, you come back to change it for another one, then you arrive the party later, it called "fashionable late".

Yes I agree with the web site's description. Wrapping may refer to something that separates one thing from another. In a deeper degree, I think it hides the inner world of ourselves so that we won't get hurt.
I surely think many goods is wrapped inidividual in Japan. It reason is convenient and easy to use. Also it appearance is good and looks very polite. Japanese more care about appearance than other people. I think maybe "wrapping" is the one of the Japanese culture.
For example, wears a mask when talking or meeting strangers, and we won't expose ourselves to the unfamiliar environment, so the mask serves as the wrapping that we may pretend to be what we are not in order to get away from hurt.

Politics and Reflections

The United Nations (UN) is the key organization to promote and maintain world peace between governments. If you were working for the UN, which job would like to do using your English abilities? Why?

I would like to work as a spokesperson for the United Nation. A spokesperson can serve as a bridge that connects the UN with the whole world, and plays a very important role in the UN activities. I think life will be more meaningful if my job is somewhat challenging. As I like to deal with people relationship, and my dream was once to be a journalist back in my childhood, being a spokesperson is just what I enjoy and I am good at. Besides, as an English major student, I think communicating with people in English is the way that we can maximize our English ability.

Working with different cultures and special guests

Q:What kind of work place do you think you will work best in? Choose a country other than Japan and research and explain 1 aspect of their business culture that is different than Japan. Do you think it is a good practice? Why?
A:I will choose to work in New York. As you know, NY is the most glamorous city all over the world, where lots of work opportunities could be offered, and where I can grow maturely. Although many people say New York is a fast, money-worship city where the relationships between people are so indifferent, I still think working there is a good opportunity for me to get to know the whole world: the diversified culture, the edge-cutting technology, the advanced ideology, etc.
For me, it's rather a learning trip to broaden my horizon. Besides, since NY is a big pot that mixes different people and their culture, I'm very interested in knowing people from different background.

Dating

This is a pie of my ideal partner's characteristics. These 4 things are mainly important:Honesty,
Responsibility,Job, and good-looking.
Honesty: This is the personality that every human being should possess, let alone my ideal partner. We love, trust and respect each other on the basis of honesty, otherwise love cannot be called love, but cheat.

Responsibility: The relationship between 2 people not only relies on the feels we have towards each other, but on the responsibilities we bear in mind. Those who have a sense of responsibility will have a clear picture about where we should go, how we treat each other. He will not ignore you when you are in trouble, and he is mature enough to take care of you.

Job: He also should have a decent job and salary, so that we will not struggle for our life. Just as an old Chinese saying goes “Everything is miserable when the couple doesn’t have money”, which indicates that happy marriage life is still depend on your money, status, etc.

Good-looking: It would be better if he is a good-looking man, because it is our nature to love beautiful things. But it is also ok if his look is not that outstanding, and the only criteria towards my ideal partner is he should be taller than me.
